Van Oord, a leading Dutch dredging and marine contractor, visited UP DGE for the 49th Department Seminar on April 30, 2024, to share insights on hydrographic surveys, offshore projects, and career opportunities in hydrographic surveying.
The UP Department of Geodetic Engineering (UP DGE) successfully hosted its 49th Department Seminar, themed “VoyaGE: Journey to Marine Ingenuity,” featuring Van Oord, a globally recognized dredging and marine contractor with over 150 years of experience in maritime infrastructure.
The seminar provided students with an inside look at hydrographic surveying and offshore projects, highlighting the crucial role of geodetic engineers in marine construction and environmental sustainability. Van Oord experts, including Chief Surveyor Rolien Besancon, Corporate Recruiter Kim de Wolf, and Surveyors Marvi Dayan and Rusty Quides, shared their expertise and experiences working on large-scale marine projects.
Beyond technical discussions, Van Oord introduced career opportunities for geodetic engineering students interested in joining the marine and offshore industry. The seminar encouraged students to explore the possibilities of working in marine engineering and how their skills contribute to sustainable and innovative marine solutions.
With an engaged audience of graduating and interested students, the seminar served as a platform for learning, networking, and career exploration. UP DGE continues to bridge industry connections to help students prepare for dynamic and impactful careers in geodetic engineering.
