Orientation Equips New Students for BS Geodetic Engineering Journey

The UP Department of Geodetic Engineering welcomed 70 new first-year students through a hybrid orientation that introduced them to the BS GE program, department faculty and facilities, student organizations, and essential academic and fieldwork processes. The day concluded with pre-advising sessions to prepare them for enrollment to officially begin their journey as Iskolar ng Bayan.

DGE Graduates Honored at 2025 COE Rites

Sixty-three graduates from the Department of Geodetic Engineering were recognized during the UP College of Engineering Recognition Rites held on July 8, 2025, at the University Theater. Among the 920 undergraduate graduates, DGE produced 43 Latin honor recipients and several awardees for academic excellence and research. Selected speaker Krystel Joy S. Swin delivered a heartfelt message on perseverance and service. Mayor Benjamin Magalong delivered an inspirational keynote urging the graduates to lead with integrity.

UP TCAGP’s MCWQM Project Wins National Award for Water Quality Innovation

The Multi-platform and Cross-sensor Water Quality Monitoring (MCWQM) Project led by Dr. Ariel C. Blanco was awarded the Public Impact Research Intervention Innovation Award at the DOST-PCIEERD Kabalikat Awards. The project harnessed satellite and UAV-based technologies to monitor water quality in Laguna de Bay, promoting science-driven resource management and earning multiple national recognitions.

UP DGE Sets Direction at Midyear Planning 2025

Lungsod Solutions Wins Gawad Pangulo for Innovation

Dr. Czar Jakiri Sarmiento of UP DGE received the Gawad Pangulo para sa Natatanging Inobasyon for Lungsod Solutions, a smart city platform piloted in Iloilo City that integrates geospatial data, real-time urban management, and citizen engagement. The project exemplifies innovation in public service and is now being considered for expansion by other LGUs.

UP DGE Students Sweep YGEP National Research Competition

UP Geodetic Engineering students won in all categories—Surveying, Geoinformatics, and Remote Sensing—at the National YGEP Research Competition. Their work was featured during the GEP National Directorate Meeting and Convention held on 12–13 June 2025.

LALLY: Low-Cost GNSS Logger Wins 1st Runner-Up at ICON 2025

Graduating BS Geodetic Engineering students John Dave C. Maclang and Alexi Mae Y. Narca, coached by Assoc. Prof. Rosalie B. Reyes and Asst. Prof. Luis Carlos S. Mabaquiao, won 1st Runner-Up at ICON 2025 for LALLY, a low-cost GNSS-based land stability monitoring system.

UP DGE CWTS Students Deliver Community Maps to Brgy. Tatalon, QC

UP COE and DGE Opens Its Doors to Future Iskolars at COE Open House

UP COE and UP DGE opened their doors to incoming Iskolars ng Bayan during the first-ever COE Open House held on May 17, 2025. A total of 434 UPCAT qualifiers attended the hybrid event, with 31 out of 75 BS Geodetic Engineering passers joining the DGE session. Students and families were welcomed with inspiring talks, department tours, and hands-on demonstrations, giving them a firsthand experience of life and learning at the country’s premier engineering institution.
