UP DGE celebrated Batch 2023 with 68 honor graduates, including 6 summa cum laude, a first in its 86-year history. Students also excelled in the Dr. Francis Chua Innovation Awards, placing in both research and design categories.
The University of the Philippines Department of Geodetic Engineering (UP DGE) proudly applauds the Class of 2023 for their exceptional achievements. This year, 86 BS Geodetic Engineering graduates and 2 MS Geomatics Engineering graduates marked a milestone for the department. Among the BS Geodetic Engineering graduates, an impressive 68 students graduated with honors, including 21 cum laude, 41 magna cum laude, and—for the first time in the department's 86-year history—6 summa cum laude.
Special recognition goes to Cristan Dave C. Zablan, this year's valedictorian, who received the Professor Emeritus Norberto Vila Award for Excellence in Geodetic Engineering and Phi Kappa Phi’s Pioneer Award.
The department also commends the remarkable performance of its students in the Dr. Francis Chua Innovation Awards - Undergraduate Project Competition 2023. All project submissions from UP DGE placed in both research and design categories, a testament to the ingenuity and dedication of the students and their faculty advisers.
In the Research Category, the team of Genesis Anne Leal and Aubrey Lalaine Lomibao secured 2nd place for their project titled Ground Deformation Monitoring of Reclaimed Lands Along Manila Bay Using PS-InSAR Technique. The 3rd place in the same category was shared by two teams: Joshua Tabernilla and Mariya Almira Ensina for Toward Spatial and Social Equality: Investigating and Modeling the Link Between Opportunity and Urban Intensity in Metro Manila, Philippines, and Jose Lorenzo Masa and Gladys Joy Villas for Integrating Time Series Analysis of Satellite-Derived Vegetation Indices and Climatological Factors for Agricultural Drought Forecasting and Monitoring in Mainland Cagayan.
In the Design Category, Raphaela Danica Dizon and Joedel Peñales won 3rd place for their project titled Real-Time Water Level Monitoring Using Low-Cost GNSS Receiver.
The UP DGE extends its admiration to the entire Batch 2023 for their contributions to academic excellence and research innovation. With a clear commitment to serving the nation and advancing geodetic and geomatics engineering, the department is confident these graduates will continue to make strides in their professional and personal endeavors.
Congratulations, BS Geodetic Engineering and MS Geomatics Engineering Batch 2023!
