UP Geodetic Engineering students won in all categories—Surveying, Geoinformatics, and Remote Sensing—at the National YGEP Research Competition. Their work was featured during the GEP National Directorate Meeting and Convention held on 12–13 June 2025.
The UP Department of Geodetic Engineering (UP DGE) has once again demonstrated its excellence in undergraduate research, with students winning across all categories of the 2025 National Research Competition organized by the Young Geodetic Engineers of the Philippines (YGEP).
The competition recognized top undergraduate research from BS Geodetic Engineering students nationwide. All winning teams from UP DGE were invited to present their research at the GEP National Directorate Meeting and Convention held on 12–13 June 2025 at the Marriott Hotel, Pasay City.
In the Surveying, Geodesy, and Photogrammetry category, Carmelo C. Catapang, Joshua O. Diacamus, and Jerome M. Landicho, under the mentorship of Assoc. Prof. Rosalie B. Reyes, D.Eng., won for their project titled “Arduino Nano-Based GNSS RC Boat for Low-Cost Hydrographic Surveying and Depth Logging.”
In the Geoinformatics category, Krystel Joy S. Swin and Christon Ledge S. Paliza emerged as winners with their study “Analyzing Urban Agglomeration Patterns and Economic Development in Metro Manila Using Social Network Analysis,” guided by Asst. Prof. Erica Erin E. Elazegui, MSc and Assoc. Prof. Alexis Richard C. Claridades, PhD.
For the Remote Sensing category, the winning project was “Habitat Suitability Modeling of Seagrass on Santiago Island, Pangasinan Using Satellite Imagery-Derived Environmental Parameters” by Ginnel Andrei P. Amolato, Edgar S. Dumalaog Jr., and James Angelo S. Cayasfon, advised by Asst. Prof. Jommer M. Medina, MSc.
