Huwebes, Abril 10, 2025

A team from the UP Department of Geodetic Engineering earned the Excellence Award at the ASEAN Geospatial Challenge 2025 for their project on a Fifteen-Minute City Index. Winners were announced at the Geo Connect Asia 2025.

A student team from the University of the Philippines Department of Geodetic Engineering (UP DGE) won the Excellence Award at the ASEAN Geospatial Challenge: Geospatial Youth Edition 2025, held by the Singapore Land Authority.

The team, named GISadoMix, developed an innovative project titled “Tapping the Urban Potential: Development of a Fifteen-Minute City Index Based on Walkability and Age-Group Population.” The project promotes inclusive and sustainable urban planning through geospatial analytics.

The award was officially announced during the Geo Connect Asia 2025 Conference on April 9, 2025. Competing against top student teams across ASEAN, GISadoMix first advanced through the Singapore National Level and was shortlisted for the ASEAN regional judging in February.

The winning team is composed of Carlo Angelo R. Mañago, Marielle G. Nasalita, Cesar V. Saveron, and Ynah Andrea D. Sunga, with Assoc. Prof. Alexis Richard C. Claridades serving as coach.

Projects were evaluated based on the relevance of the challenge (20%), application of geospatial technology (40%), creativity (20%), and sustainability/applicability (20%). The Excellence Award, which comes with a $300 cash prize, recognizes impactful and innovative solutions that align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
