The Geomatics Student Project Colloquium 2024 (GSPC) was successfully held on April 27 at the Engineering Theater, Melchor Hall, featuring outstanding student research in geospatial sciences and geomatics applications. Awards were given to the top presentations in oral, map poster, and thesis poster sessions, recognizing innovative work in accessibility analysis, environmental monitoring, AI in 3D modeling, and spatial data trends.

The UP Department of Geodetic Engineering (UP DGE) successfully hosted the Geomatics Student Project Colloquium 2024 (GSPC), bringing together students, faculty, and industry professionals to celebrate innovative research in geospatial sciences. The event provided a platform for students to present their work and engage with experts in the field.

In the Oral Presentation Session, the first-place award was given to Accessibility Analysis of National Science Complex for Persons with Disabilities Using UAV-Acquired Images (Castillo, Mendoza, Vergara). The second-place award went to Multi-temporal Analysis of Green Spaces in Manila, Philippines Through a "Green Index" (Francisco, Narca, Gonzales, Medina), while third place was awarded to Analyzing the Impact of AI Modifications on Image Quality for 3D Modeling Reconstruction (Borlado, Dizon, Santonia, Vergara).

The Map Poster Presentation Session recognized Pursuit of Happiness: Gross Regional Domestic Product Per Capita and the Prevalence of Depression in the Philippines, 2021 (Sunga, Cayasfon, Aragona, Medina) as the first-place winner and People’s Choice Awardee. The second-place award went to 2021 Average Family Income & Fastfood Stores Per 10K People (Galano, Mañago, Villarias, Apura), while third place was awarded to 2021 Child Labor and Poverty Incidence Among Population by Region in the Philippines (Amolato, Bigtan, Manzanares, Medina).

In the Thesis Poster Presentation Session, the first-place award was given to Comparative Analysis of GNOME and Sentinel-1 SAR Images for Oil Spill Trajectory Modeling in Verde Island Passage (Cerillo, Razon, Tamondong, Medina). The second-place award went to Comparison of Land Use Regression (LUR) Analysis and Random Forest Spatiotemporal Kriging (RF STK) in Estimating the SO₂ Concentration Within the Vicinity of Mt. Mayon (Brusola, Gison, Babaan). Third place was awarded to Spatio-Temporal Correlation of Traffic Accidents and Traffic Congestion Along Commonwealth Avenue Using Crowdsourced Waze Traffic Data (Castro, Tadle, Carcellar).

The event’s success was made possible through the generous support of sponsors, including Abelon-Arriesgado Real Estate and Engineering Services, UP Geomatics Alumni Association Inc., Engr. Brent Niko Dargantes, Asst. Prof. Carlyn Ann Ibañez, Engr. Dominic Fargas, Engr. Gian Nathan Tongco, Engr. Irish Cortez, Engr. Patrick Barbosa, and other anonymous contributors.

The GSPC 2024 provided an avenue for students to showcase their expertise and contribute to advancing geomatics research. Congratulations to all awardees, presenters, and participants for making this event a success. We look forward to seeing more groundbreaking research in the next GSPC!
