UP DGE and UP TCAGP participated in the 35th GEP-NCR Convention held on 28–29 March 2025 at Century Park Hotel Manila. The event gathered professionals and alumni to celebrate the past, present, and future of geodetic engineering.
The UP Department of Geodetic Engineering (UP DGE) and the UP Training Center for Applied Geodesy and Photogrammetry (TCAGP) joined the 35th Annual Regional Convention of the Geodetic Engineers of the Philippines - NCR Chapter held on 28–29 March 2025 at Century Park Hotel Manila. With the theme “Golden Legacy of Geodetic Engineering Excellence: Revisiting the Past, Aligning the Present, Scaling Our Aspirations,” the event was a celebration of achievements and a look forward to the evolving landscape of the profession.
At least 50 UP DGE alumni attended the event, including current faculty members and officers of the UP Geodetic Engineering Alumni Association. UP DGE and TCAGP set up a booth to promote the MS Geomatics Engineering program and TCAGP’s specialized training courses. The team also conducted a survey among attendees regarding the proposed PhD program in Geomatics Engineering.
Plenary talks were delivered by Dr. Czar Jakiri S. Sarmiento, NEC Deputy Executive Director and UP DGE Associate Professor, and Engr. Charisma Victoria D. Cayapan, UP DGE alumna and geophysicist at NAMRIA. Both speakers highlighted the expanding frontiers of geodetic engineering and the role of geospatial technologies in national development.
The convention also honored Prof. Epifanio D. Lopez—former UP DGE Chair and TCAGP Director, and current Chair of the Professional Regulatory Board of Geodetic Engineering—with the Lifetime Achievement Award from GEP-NCR in recognition of his exceptional service to the profession.
Four UP DGE alumni were reelected for a second term in the GEP-NCR Board of Directors:
Engr. Estrellita C. Bordallo (President), Engr. Sarah Jane D. Samalburo (Vice President), Engr. Neil Kelvin M. Del Rosario (Director), and Engr. Ma. Anna P. Manga-Valiente (Director).
The department’s active participation reflects its enduring commitment to building a strong geodetic engineering community and cultivating future-ready professionals who will continue to elevate the field.
