The UP Department of Geodetic Engineering (UP DGE) recently held a seminar on Space Data for Environmental Management, featuring Engr. Rey Jalbuena and Engr. Mark Joseph Calubad, both alumni of UP DGE and current Ph.D. students in the ICT Convergence Smart Ocean City Engineering program at Dong-A University, South Korea.

Engr. Jalbuena discussed the application of remote sensing and machine learning in studying urban heat islands, demonstrating how these technologies can provide critical insights into urban environmental challenges. Meanwhile, Engr. Calubad presented how spatial data and modeling can be used to monitor and predict air quality, with a focus on pollution management strategies.

Beyond technical discussions, the speakers shared their experiences as postgraduate students in Korea, including details about scholarships offered through the Brain Korea 21 program. Their insights provided valuable guidance for students interested in geospatial technologies, environmental science, urban planning, and international studies.
