UP DGE Sets Direction at Midyear Planning 2025

UP DGE held its Midyear Planning 2025 from June 9 to 11 at Hotel Kimberly, Tagaytay. The three-day event featured committee presentations, strategy sessions, and team-building activities that reaffirmed the department’s collective commitment to excellence and service.

From June 9 to 11, 2025, the UP Department of Geodetic Engineering gathered at Hotel Kimberly, Tagaytay for its annual Midyear Planning. The event served as a venue for the faculty and staff to assess the past academic year, present strategic plans, and strengthen the department’s shared commitment to academic excellence and public service.

All academic and administrative committees presented their accomplishments and outlined their plans moving forward. From the academic cluster, the Undergraduate Academic Program Committee (Asst. Prof. Jennieveive Babaan), Undergraduate Student Affairs Committee (Inst. Jommer Medina), Graduate Program and Students Committee (Asst. Prof. Mark Edwin Tupas, Ph.D.), and the Training, Research, and Extension Committee (Asst. Prof. Luis Carlos Mabaquiao) detailed initiatives to enhance instruction, research engagement, student support, and graduate program administration.

The Publicity Committee, led by Asst. Prof. Karl Adrian Vergara, presented its highlights from the past year—showcasing campaigns, content, and communication strategies that amplified the department’s presence and initiatives. He then formally turned over the leadership to Inst. Ma. Bea Angela Zamora. This transition was part of a broader reshuffling of committee roles that also saw Asst. Prof. Cruz and Asst. Prof. Ibanez exchanging leadership responsibilities between the External Affairs and Internal Relations Committees. Updates from the Facilities and Resource Management Committee (Asst. Prof. Erica Erin Elazegui), Internal Relations Committee (now headed by Asst. Prof. Ibanez), and External Affairs Committee (now headed by Asst. Prof. Cruz) focused on resource planning, internal coordination, and strengthening external partnerships—all essential in gearing up for broader institutional goals.

The administrative staff report, delivered by Ms. Karisse Villanueva, presented the budget performance of the department for the past year and outlined financial priorities and resource allocations for the coming year. Meanwhile, the QMS Committee emphasized the department’s readiness for the upcoming PTC-ACBET accreditation, presenting strategies for quality assurance and continuous process enhancement. The Department Academic Personnel Committee (DAPC) reported updates on faculty tenure, promotion, and ongoing development initiatives.

More than just planning, the event also emphasized community. Team-building activities created space for recalling shared memories, strengthening personal bonds, and revisiting the purpose of service. The commitment-setting session gave participants an opportunity to reflect on their roles and articulate their individual and collective goals for the academic year.

The UP DGE Midyear Planning 2025 concluded with a renewed sense of unity, purpose, and readiness—not just for the academic year ahead, but for key milestones like the PTC-ACBET accreditation that will further strengthen the department’s quality and impact.
